Cheverus Network -- Remote Access -- Authorized accounts only

Instructions
for Windows users

Try this first.
Remote Connection
  • If you receive a security warning and are asked permission to install "Remote Desktop ActiveX Control", accept.
  • Then click on "Connect" and log in normally.
  • Remember to change DOMAIN to ADMINISTRATION if you are not a teacher or student.
If that doesn't work for you, follow the instructions below.
  1. Obtain a program disk or download the program. If you are using XP the application is already installed. Start "Remote Desktop" (Program Files\Accessories\Communication) and go to #6.
  2. The file is a self-extracting file. Run the program and extract the files to any temporary directory.
  3. After extraction, find the temporary directory and run the setup.exe program.
  4. Accept the default configurations during the installation.
  5. Run the newly installed program called "Terminal Services Client".
  6. A small window will appear where you can enter the name of the server and the size of your window.
    • Server: remote.cheverus.org
    • Screen Area: use 800x600 initially -- this can be changed later.
    • Check "Enable Compression" and "Cache Bitmaps".
  7. Click on "Connect" and you should quickly see a normal network login screen.
  8. Enter your Cheverus network login and password. Without these, you can not gain access.
  9. Be sure that the DOMAIN is set to INTERNAL if you are a student or teacher, ADMINISTRATION if you are not.
  10. After a successful login, you will see a normal desktop and have access to the files you would normally have access to. Your personal files may be found in, and should be saved to the U: drive (look in MyComputer).
Realize that this is a "window" into the Cheverus network. You can not directly transfer files via this connection. If you need to move files, use email to do so. You can access your Cheverus email account via the browser in the Terminal Services window. Therefore, if you email something to yourself from one location, you'll be able to retrieve it from the other.

Printing is quick and easy. The default printer will be your own printer (connected to your remote computer). If you get a message that there is no driver installed for your printer, and you would like to use it, fill out this form and a driver will be installed as soon as possible. To print to a school printer, select from the printer list available. If the school printer you need is not listed, fill out this form.

If you have problems or questions, send email to net.admin@cheverus.org (Login and password information is not available via email.)
