Student Profile
Cheverus High School’s student body is comprised of a mix of students from over 50 towns and 67 different sending schools. In 2007-2008, 48.25% of the student body received financial aid, and $1,289,800 was granted to students deserving of aid. There are currently 542 students enrolled – 214 females and 328 males. The young men and women attending Cheverus High School come from diverse socio-economic situations, religious affiliations, and racial backgrounds. The beauty of this association is the common trust and friendship that develops between students as they pursue a common goal of personal development and service to others in the Jesuit tradition. Although Cheverus High School is a Catholic Jesuit institution, approximately 40% of those enrolled are non-Catholic. In this diverse environment, it is possible for a young person to come from rural Maine and discover what it is like to attend college preparatory classes in the state’s largest city. It is an environment that brings young people together from completely different backgrounds, and gives them the chance to celebrate a mutual victory in a sporting event or on a debate team. It is in this environment that the young men and women of Cheverus High School learn to appreciate the value of empathy and compassion, of struggle and success, of giving and receiving. It is this acceptance of others and the call for social justice that truly marks the evolution of the mind and spirit of Cheverus.
