How to Apply to Cheverus: Timeline

During the months of November and December, the President and Director of Admissions of Cheverus High School will speak about the value of a Jesuit education at numerous local Catholic parishes.  Representatives from the Admissions Office will also be available to answer follow-up questions and provide applications to all those interested.

Beginning in October, the Director of Admissions and a number of student ambassadors visit with parochial school students to discuss Cheverus High School.  After a brief overview of the school and its programs, the floor will open to specific questions from the student audience.

Prospective students may schedule Cheverus Days on any school day beginning Monday, October 15, 2007.  During a Cheverus Day, a prospective student “shadows” a student ambassador and has the opportunity to meet faculty members, Cheverus students and Cheverus administrators.  This date also marks the release of 2008-2009 application materials.

On October 14, 2007, Cheverus High School will host its annual Open House.  The Open House provides an opportunity for families to tour the campus, hear prominent student speakers, meet the President of Cheverus, faculty and coaches, and browse through our activities fair.  Student representatives from sports and co-curricular activities will “showcase”  their respective interests and talk with prospective students about participation.

Placement Exams

Beginning this year, no preliminary Placement Exams are required as part of the Cheverus application process.

In late May, all new incoming, accepted students will sit for Placement Exams in mathematics, English and foreign language.  These students will be notified of the date and time well in advance.

Between the months of October and May, the Admissions Office will review application components and conduct personal interviews with each student following his/her Cheverus Day.  Students unable to participate in the Cheverus Day program must schedule an interview with the Director of Admissions.  All components of the application (parent application, student application, teacher reference and school recommendation with transcript, with $50 application fee) must be received before the Admissions Office will render a decision.  It is the responsibility of the prospective student to ensure that all relevant information has been forwarded to Cheverus High School.  Optional letters of reference supporting any student’s application will gladly be accepted and reviewed.

Early Admission:  All students who have completed the entire application, and interviewed with the Director of Admissions before December 7, 2007, will be considered for Early Admission.  Decisions regarding Early Admission will be mailed out no later than December 20, 2007.   Early Admission students will have until January 21, 2008 to respond to the offer of acceptance.

All other Admissions notifications will be on a rolling format. That is, completed applications will be acted upon promptly beginning on February 1, 2008.   Accepted applicants will have 21 days  to respond to the offer of acceptance.  Should a prospective family fail to respond to an offer of acceptance within the 21 day time frame, the Admissions Office reserves the right to vacate the offer of acceptance and immediately consult the Waiting List.

Frequently, throughout the Admissions Cycle, the Admissions Office will mail Application Status Cards to all students with partially completed applications.  Once again, it is the responsibility of the prospective student to ensure that all relevant material has been forwarded to Cheverus High School.

Each applicant placed on the Waiting List will meet with the Director of Admissions to discuss the reason he/she has been so placed.  The applicant will be reconsidered for admission as soon as the requirements clarified in the Wait List discussion have been met.
