IS THERE FINANCIAL AID AND HOW DOES A FAMILY QUALIFY FOR AID?

Cheverus offers a substantial, but limited amount of financial aid. A student must be notified of acceptance for admission and pay the $750* holding fee (applied to tuition) within two weeks if a financial aid award is offered (this applies to incoming freshmen and transfer students only).  Further information is available through the Treasurer's Office (774-6238 ext. 15, 16 or 17).

WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS FOR RECEIVING A FINANCIAL AID GRANT?

A Financial Aid Grant is based on the financial need of a student and his or her family.  Cheverus High School is committed to helping all qualified students as much as possible in their attempt to enroll at Cheverus.  The size of each grant is determined by family need, the number of applicants, the amount of financial aid available, and the timely receipt of the application.  In 2007-2008, approximately 48.25% of the student body received some financial aid, and $1,289,800 was awarded to students deserving of aid.  Over 98.88% of the Families who applied for Financial Aid Grants this year enrolled their students.  A Financial Aid Grant includes a work grant program, which credits a student with $7.00 (Maine State minimum wage effective October 1, 2007) for every hour worked.  Juniors and Seniors are eligible to participate in the Double Your Dollar Program, allowing the turning in of paychecks from an outside employer crediting the work grant $2 for every $1 in the paycheck.  Successful and satisfactory completion of work grants is the responsibility of the student.  Work is assigned on campus according to a student’s schedule for class, athletic and co-curricular activities.

IS THERE ANY OTHER SOURCE OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE?

Yes.  Beginning 2008-09 school year Cheverus will be offering “Freshman Ignatian Merit Scholarship Exams”.  Exam dates are:  February 9th and March 8th, 2008.  Up to five (5) $2,500 scholarships will be offered for freshman for the 2008-09 year who have received admissions acceptance, completed and returned an enrollment contract and paid the non-refundable holding fee payment prior to the exam date.

Also, several local Catholic parishes offer active members of their parish subsidies for tuition charges at Cheverus.  Any subsidy from a parish is considered to be an addition to the Cheverus Financial Aid Grant.  Check with your pastor concerning the availability of a parish subsidy.

ARE THERE FEES IN ADDITION TO TUITION CHARGES?

Yes.  There is a non-refundable application fee of $50 to be submitted with the student's application.  In 2007-08, Freshmen art students are assessed an Art fee of $40*.  Freshmen are assessed a Retreat fee of *$15.  All students are assessed a Retreat fee each year.  These fees are exclusive of tuition charges and are included in the first tuition statement.  In addition, textbook charges range between $350 and $450.  Used textbooks are usually available at a lower price on a first-come/first-served basis.  Hardcover textbooks that will be used in the next school year may be returned for credit at the end of the school year.  A $45* fee for the yearbook is optional.  *subject to a slight change after approval of 2008-09 budget in June.
