Induction Ceremony -- 2007
The Fourth Annual Hall of Fame banquet was held on Sunday, May 20th at the Portland Regency Hotel. Honored were four men who are archetypes of Stag spirit and high athletic achievement:
Coach and teacher Bob Brewer 1971-97
Track standouts Jesse Allen ’95 and Colin Peddie ‘81
Three-sport whiz “Hooker” Foley ‘30
Friends, family and Cheverus sports buffs gathered to celebrate the inductees’ athletic achievements. A reception began at 12:30, allowing time over appetizers for the inductees and their guests the chance to mingle, chat and view the displays of trophies, awards, clippings and photos. The Regency’s customary delicious buffet lunch was then enjoyed by all prior to the award ceremony.

The Award ceremony was masterfully run by Jim Ciampi ’81. Mr. George Collins opened the ceremony with a prayer, followed by the reading of a congratulatory letter from Fr. Amiot who was unfortunately unable to attend the event. Each award winner was then introduced with a short summary of their accomplishments and spoke about their Cheverus experiences and beyond. Jesse Allen was introduced by his brother, Sean ’09; Bob Brewer was introduced by Athletic Director Gary Hoyt; “Hooker” Foley’s son, Bill Foley, accepted the award on his behalf and was introduced by Tom Dunn; and Colin Peddie was introduced by Vince Ciampi ’73. It was a moving and meaningful event filled with laughter, tears and very happy reminiscences.

Recipients were given an etched glass award bearing their name, dates and the Hall of Fame and Cheverus logos. Individual plaques for each inductee bearing a list of their athletic accomplishments will be hung in the Keegan gym foyer alongside previous award winners.
Eight student-athletes from the junior class were invited by the Hall of Fame Committee and courtesy of Purple and Gold to witness the ceremony and to learn about the commitment, passion and integrity of these four individuals who were a dynamic part of the Cheverus sports program: Will Hallisey, Emily Lambert, Doug Alston, Jessica Groth, Chris Hendrix, Caitlin Hurley, Vinny Ciampi and Mollie Fitzpatrick.
It was an event that was meaningful for all who attended--friends, family, students, fellow athletes and teammates all gathered in a celebration of excellence.
