About the Cheverus Hall of Fame
Throughout the years Cheverus has established a winning athletic program that is the envy of most schools. State Championship trophies have jammed our trophy cases to the point where there is no room left for new ones. Adorning the walls of the Cheverus gymnasium you will see banners proclaiming #1 honors in the State of Maine for Basketball (7), Football (1), X-Country (17), Indoor Track (18), Outdoor Track (13), Swimming (1), Soccer (1), Tennis (4), Hockey (2) and 6 for Sportsmanship. These lofty numbers would swell out of proportion if we also included all of the Western Maine, and Conference Championships.
Obviously, great teams are made up of gifted and highly skilled athletes. The purpose of the Cheverus Hall of Fame is to honor those that have competed and achieved at the highest level with the class and dignity of true champions. Not only are many individuals and teams honored for their outstanding achievements, but the Hall also includes those coaches, administrators, and other key contributors that have helped to create the Cheverus tradition of excellence.
The current Hall of Fame committee is made up of three alumni who span three different decades, a long-time teacher, a current coach, and three present-day Cheverus administrators. All told, this committee has over 250 years of knowledge and experience with the different Cheverus athletic programs.
This year’s induction ceremony and dinner will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at the The Portland Regency Hotel. A special thanks goes out at this time to Ed Rogers ’77 and Dan Smith '78, for stepping forward and sponsoring the annual Cheverus Hall of Fame. What a pleasure to have two former student athletes provide this opportunity for their fellow Cheverians.
