ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT POLICIES

College Recruitment Policy

If a college coach or recruiter contacts an athlete, please inform the coach and the athletic department as soon as possible to ensure that the student athlete's eligibility is not compromised and to discuss issues related to athletic recruitment.

NCAA Clearinghouse forms for athletes considering participation in collegiate athletics are in the main office and should be completed as early as possible in the senior year. Please note the N.C.A.A. has made changes to high school requirements this year. For the latest information for the student athlete, log on to www.ncaa.org.

Conflicts in Extracurricular Activities

An individual student who attempts to participate in too many extracurricular activities undoubtedly will face conflicts. The Athletic Department recognizes that each student should have the opportunity for a broad range of experiences in the area of extracurricular activities, and to this end, will attempt to schedule events in a manner so as to minimize conflicts.

Students have responsibilities to themselves and to those organizations to which they belong. They need to be judicious about their time and avoid those activities where conflicts are bound to arise. Students must also notify faculty sponsors in advance where unavoidable conflicts exist.

Once apprised of a conflict, the sponsors will get together to try to work out a solution so the student does not feel in the middle. If a solution cannot be found, the principal will make a decision based on the following:

  1. The relative importance of each event.
  2. The importance of each event to the student.
  3. The relative contribution the student can make.
  4. How long each event has been scheduled.
  5. Talk with parents.

Once the decision has been made and the student has followed that decision, the faculty sponsor will not penalize him in any way. If it becomes obvious that the student cannot fulfill the obligation of a school activity, he or she should withdraw from the activity.

Awards Banquets

Athletic recognition banquets shall be scheduled as a post-season activity for all teams. Cheverus and/or the Purple and Gold Club fund the awards systems (see awards). The Purple and Gold Club has designated one banquet per season (fall, winter and spring).
