Mr. Ed Haley -- Chairman

Ed Haley is an Account Manager for Hewlett Packard Company. He holds a BS from Plymouth State College. He and his wife Judy have two children: Patrick (’05) and Katherine (’10). In addition to his service on the Cheverus Board of Trustees, Ed also served as the President of the Cheverus parents’ group, Purple & Gold

Mr. John Kerry -- Vice-Chairman


Portland ME
John Kerry is the director of the state Office of Energy Independence and Security. Kerry, a former Democratic legislator from Saco, headed the state energy office from 1983 to 1986 during the Brennan administration. He is the former CEO of Catholic Charities Maine.



Mr. Richard Ranaghan -- Treasurer

Richard J. Ranaghan is a Senior VP at Gorham Savings Bank. He holds a BS in Business from the University of Maine-Portland. He has two sons, James and Matthew


Mr. James Ward ('63) -- Secretary

A two-time former CHS Board Member, Jim is a graduate of the University of Maine and Boston College School of Law and owner of Patient Advocates, LLC. He and his wife, Michelle, live in Limington. His sons Justin (’94) and Andrew (’03) both attended Cheverus.


Rev. Richard Bertrand, SJ -- Trustee

Rev. Richard D. Bertrand, SJ, was formerly Cheverus’ Academic Vice Principal and Principal while also serving as Dean of Admissions. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1966 and performed his theological studies at the Weston School of Theology in Massachusetts and in Quebec City. He has a Bachelors’ degree in French and Philosophy and a Masters’ degree in French from Boston College, a diploma in Art History from the Louvre School in Paris and a Professional Diploma in Educational Admnistration from Fordham University. He has completed language studies in Quebec City, Dijon, Paris, Mexico City, Madrid, Valladolid (Spain), Alicante (Spain) and Santiago (Chile). Fr. Bertrand has taught French, Spanish and English at Seattle Prep School, Boston College High School, Ecode St. Louis de Gonzague (France), Colegio San Ignacio (Chile), Bishop Connolly High School (Massachusetts) and Fairfield College Prep (Connecticut). He has served as Assistant Dean of Admissions at Fairfield University and Chaplain at Fairfield Prep. A Maine native, Fr. Bertrand has served throughout parishes in Maine and is currently Pastor of Sacred Heart/St. Dominic in Portland.



Rev. Michael Boughton, SJ -- Trustee

Fr. Michael Boughton, SJ is the superior of the Jesuit community in Maine and serves as pastor of St. Pius X and St. Patrick parish and has some responsibility for the oversight of St. Brigid's elementary school. Fr. Boughton is a delegate to the Society of Jesus' 35th General Congregation that meets in Rome from January-March 2008.


Mr. Anthony Chiasson ('91) -- Trustee

Anthony Chiasson is a co-founding Partner and the Director of Research for Level Global Investors, LLC, a $3.5 billion dollar hedge fund focused on global equities established in 2003.  He began his career on Wall Street in Equity Research at Salomon Brothers in 1995. Chiasson is a graduate of the Cheverus High School Class of 1991 and a graduate of Babson College.  He currently serves on the Babson College Board of Trustees.  His two older brothers are graduates of Cheverus (Louis ’84 and Joseph ’81), and his mother, Lucille, worked in the Cheverus library for almost twenty years.  Chiasson currently lives in Manhattan with his wife and son.



Mrs. Peggy Cianchette -- Trustee

Peggy Cianchette, a resident of Falmouth, is the owner of The Portland Regency Hotel. She is a Real Estate Manager for commercial properties. Her connection to Cheverus is a long one: each of her four children now attends or has graduated from Cheverus – Michael (’02), Kenneth (’06), Erica (’07) and Emily (’10). She is a staunch supporter of many area non-profits, including Cheverus, the University of Maine and the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Rev. William Clark, SJ, holds a BA from Williams College, MA from Loyola University (Chicago) and STD from Weston Jesuit School of Theology. He currently serves in the Religious Studies Department at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA


Mrs. Beth Coates -- Trustee

Beth Coates holds a BA in English Literature from Boston University and an MS in Educational Administration from the University of Southern Maine. She has been a member of the Cheverus English Department since 1998 and now serves as the Department Chair. In the fall of 2007, she will embark on her 20th year as a teacher. An avid golfer, she broke 100 after three years of playing. She lives in South Portland with her husband Darrell and children Elliot (’10) and Gillian.


Mr. Edward Dilworth, Jr. -- Trustee

Ed Dilworth is retired after a distinguished banking career in the southern Maine area.  He is a rare commodity in that he essentially retired from the same ban in which he began his career thirty years prior (Oxford Bank and Trust/TD Banknorth).  Dilworth is an alumnus of St. Michael’s College in Vermont and has been cited by the school as an Alumnus of the Year.  He is the father of three, including Edward who graduated with the Cheverus High School Class of 1985.



Mr. Michael Dubois ('68) -- Trustee

Michael DuBois (’68) is a retired Special Agent, US Department of the Treasury and currently works for The West River Group of Annapolis, Maryland as a special investigator. Michael is also a member of the adjunct staff at Andover College, teaching in the Criminal Justice Program. He holds a BS from NortheasternUniversity in Criminal Justice and a MS in Criminal Justice Planning and Management. He has been a member of the Shawnee Peak Ski patrol for over 15 years. He and his wife, Ann Marie, live in Westbrook and are the parents of Christopher (’07), Jonathan (’09) and Lauren (’10).




Mr. Gene Fitzpatrick -- Trustee

Falmouth ME
Gene attended Bentley College, University of San Diego and University of Southern Maine and played professional sports in California for six years. He is employed by Bearing Speciality Co, Chaplin Hill Estates and Bradley Drive Real Estate. He founded the Foundation 51 Educational Fund and the Muscular Dystrophy Marathon Challenge, serves on the Mercy Hospital Development and Fundraising Committees and as Commissioner of the Cumberland Little League, and coaches Casco Bay Hockey. Gene also serves on the Cheverus Purple & Gold Fundraising Committee. He and wife, Maryellen, live in Falmouth and are the parents of Eugene (’07), Mollie (’08), Gracie (’10) and Liam (’13).


Ms. Margaret Florentine -- Ex Officio

Meg Florentine serves the New England Province of the Society of Jesus as the Provincial Assistant for Secondary and Middle School Education. She holds a BA in History and Economics from Boston College, an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the University of Massachusetts, and an MA in History from Boston College. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband, George.


Mr. Gregg Frame -- Trustee


Taylor, McCormack & Frame, LLC
Portland ME
Gregg Frame is a founding member of the law firm Taylor, McCormack & Frame, focusing on labor and employment law, business development and litigation.  Mr. Frame received his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law.  He taught at Cheverus for three years and coached basketball there for two years.


Mr. Mark Googins ('73) -- Trustee

Verrill Dana, LLP
Portland ME
Mark Googins is a partner at Verrill Dana, LLP in Portland. He previously served on the Cheverus Board of Trustees from 1990-1998 and his current service began in 2004. He and his wife, Betts Gorsky, live in Cumberland with their children, Griffin and David. Mark holds a BA from Tufts University and and a JD from New York University School of Law. Three of his five brothers are also Cheverus alumni: Brian (’59), Bradley (’61) and Daniel (’63). Mark also served as a member of the Cheverus Magis Award Committee from 2004-2007.



Mrs. Whitney Harvey -- Trustee

South Portland ME
Whitney Neville Harvey graduated from Boston University with a BA in Psychology and later studied criminal law at the Institute for Paralegal Training in Philadelphia where she received a Certificate in Paralegal Studies. After moving to Maine in 1976, she started the Victim/Witness Assistance Program in the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, worked as a paralegal in Portland and started a company producing trial transcripts from electronic media for the Maine District Court system and the US Bankruptcy Court. Since selling her company to spend more time with her children and volunteer in the community, she has volunteered with Maine Medical Center, the Portland Stage Company, the Children’s Museum, and the Portland Symphony Orchestra. She and her late husband, Chuck, have two children, Charlotte and John who graduated from Cheverus in 2005 and went on to Bates College.



Rev. Anthony Kuzniewski, SJ -- Trustee

Rev. Anthony J. Kuzniewski, SJ, is a Professor of History at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. He holds a BA from Marquette University, an MA and PhD from Harvard University and an M.Div. from Loyola University (Chicago). He also serves as the Archivist for the New England Province of the Society of Jesus.

Ms. Jana Lapoint -- Trustee

Falmouth ME
Jana LaPoint holds a BS and a MS in Business Education. She taught high school for 11 years in New Canaan, CT, and was Vice President of Corporate Affairs for her own company, UF Strainrite, until her retirement in 2005. She served on the State Board for the Community College System for 11 years, including a two-year stint as Chair. She currently serves on the board for Habitat for Humanity and the Center for Prevention of Hate Violence. The Kennebec Council of the Girl Scouts recognized her with the “Women of Distinction” Award. She serves on the advisory boards for the Maine Women’s Fund and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She is an active member of the League of Women Voters, where she served as President of the Portland chapter and Vice President of the State League of Women Voters.
