Cheverus High School Purple & Gold Board of Directors-Meeting Minutes March 8, 2010
The regular monthly meeting of the Purple & Gold was held on Monday, March 8 2010 at 7pm at Loyola Hall, Cheverus High School. There was no meeting of the Purple & Gold in February due to schedule conflicts. Board members present were Bob Scribner, Ann Sawchuck, Eileen MacDonald, Nancy Rockefeller, Nicole Hogslund, and Jennie Gwilym. Others in attendance included: Karen Moreshead (Swimming), Michelle Belyea Jackie Witham (Girls Hockey), Chris Woods (Cross-Country) Jamie Chamberlain (Girls Lacrosse Coach), Mac McKew (Baseball), Michael Komich (Business Director) and Gary Hoyt (Director of Athletics and Activities) Call to Order A. President Bob Scribner called the meeting to order at 7:00pm and opened with a prayer. I. Previous Meeting Minutes A. A motion was brought forward to accept the minutes from the January Meeting. The motion was seconded and passed. II. Business Updates A. Highlights of 6 pm Board meeting- 1. The board discussed the need to replenish the championship recognition account due to the success of the various teams this fall and winter. It was decided to recommend for vote of the larger group to add an additional $4,000. We had approved $1,000 in the fall so this would bring the total to $5,000 for the year. This was voted on at the 7pm meeting by the entire group and was approved. 2. The group discussed the Greaseless Fryer that Gary has recommended for purchase. The group overall thinks it is a good idea once a few details are ironed out. These include location of equipment, additional freezer space for expanded products, and electrical re configuration in the multi-purpose room. 3. The Board decided to review the bi-laws next month. B. Treasurer’s Report- Ann reported that the final expenditures of teams was as follows Boys Soccer- $1,364 Cross-Country- $788 Field Hockey- $2,231 Girls Soccer- $1,052 As of 2/28 the Purple and Gold has a balance of $63,955 During the month Concessions raised $1,578, Gate collected $4,360, Boys Basketball Shoot-a-thon raised $7,601, Girls Basketball Tournament $200, and Swim-a-thon $3,297. Total Income $17,036 for the month. Year to date we have raised $53,814 and we have approved expenditures of $37,447 Next month the winter sports teams will report on their fundraising and expenditures for the season. C. Liaison Report – Spring Liaisons are Jean McKew and Bobbi Lopes Baseball, Boys Lacrosse- being finalized, Girls Lacrosse- Patti Franson, Softball-Ralph Hendrix, Sailing-Peter Dion and Bob Scribner. We still need liaisons for tennis and outdoor track D. Fundraising- no report E. Concessions- No report F. Administration Updates- Gary reported about the success of the various winter sports teams. This included State Championships for Girls Hockey and Boys Basketball, Sportsmanship Award for both Boys and Girls in Swimming, Boys track team placed 2nd at the state meet,4x800 relay winning and breaking their own state record and finishing 2nd at New England’s, Lianna Rubinoff winning the state in the 2 mile, Maggie Corrigan state champion in Skiing. .The fitness room has been being heavily used throughout the winter. Intramural Volleyball and Basketball started this week. March 22nd pitchers and catchers start practicing and March 29th all the remaining teams start practice. Michael Komich reported that enrollment for the freshman class is strong. There are 2 slots left to meet the budgeted goal of 111 students. The enrollment goal is 131. . III. Fundraising/Expenditure A. Expenditures- Project Graduation- $2,500 Baseball Equipment- $1,300 Track Protectors- $1,898 B. Fund raising Requests- Mr. CHS Pageant- 2010 Prom Senior T-Shirts-2010 Prom Special Edition Oxford Shirts- 2010 Prom Cinnamon Bun Kits-2010 Prom Mixed Bag -2010 Prom (4/5-4/16) Mixed Bag- Project Graduation (3/15-4/5) Bulb Sale- Project Graduation IV. New Business A. Cheverus will host the SMAA Sportsmanship Summit on 4/13 Eileen McDonald volunteered to help Gary line up 25-30 parents to help out during the day. Gary is also looking for a keynote speaker with the theme of the event about Responsibility for Community Service. Please let him know if you have suggestions. B. Jamie Chamberlain (Girls Lacrosse Coach) shared pictures from past year’s team building trip to UNH as well as a recap of his coaching seminar in Baltimore.
