Christmas Card Features Student Painting

December 17, 2017
By Jeanette Wycoff

Congratulations to Will Gordon '20 who is the winner of the Christmas card contest. He created a beautiful pen and ink with watercolor featuring the view of the chapel from the fields with the Star of Bethlehem in the sky. His artwork is featured on this year's Christmas card and he received a $100 L.L.Bean gift card.

Will is a primarily self-taught artist whose preferred medium is watercolor. Will is the president of the art club and was the winner of the annual Cheverus art show last spring for his outstanding pen and ink with watercolor illustration of the Portland skyline.  Freshman year, Will played soccer, hockey, and ultimate frisbee. This year, he is on the wrestling team and volunteers at soccer games. Will would like to pursue art after high school and has enjoyed the experience of working with a professional illustrator.

Will chose to depict the view of the chapel from the fields. He is especially fond of this view when the light from the chapel shines through the stained glass window on the short days of winter.

Will lives in Portland and is the son of Thomas and Karen Gordon.
