Feast of the Ascension

"Build the kingdom each day of our lives, such that God will recognize it when God returns."

--Fr. Robert Pecoraro, S.J.

May 31, 2019 - Yesterday's Feast of the Ascension was the final all-school Mass of the year, as classes end today, May 31.

In his homily, Fr. Robert Pecoraro, S.J. asked what we are to do in the in-between days. "The model offered by St. Paul is one we embrace here at Cheverus. We ask for the spirit to give us wisdom and revelation that puts Christ in the middle of what we are thinking. A sharpening of the eyes of our heart. I think that is what a Cheverus and a Jesuit education is all about." he said.

Freshman, sophomores, and juniors were joined by faculty and staff in the gym, but the seats previously filled by the Class of 2019 were vacant. This Mass also marks a time of transition for the Cheverus community.  The incoming class presidents of the rising senior, junior, and sophomore classes each lit a candle from the Easter candle and led their class to new seats in the gymnasium.  In a very moving tradition in the lead-up to graduation weekend, Richard Joyce '19 represented his class and received a blessing from Fr. Bob Pecoraro, S.J. and was commissioned with the words St. Ignatius said to his missionaries: "Go set the world on fire!"
