Caitlin Kennedy-Jensen ’20 is the 2019 recipient of the Elizabeth Gillis and Leonard F. Ahern Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes a member of the senior class who fulfills the “Grad at Grad” profile by being open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, is committed to doing justice, and who has demonstrated financial need. Kennedy-Jensen will receive $30,000 towards college and was chosen through a Cheverus selection committee process.

The senior class president, Kennedy-Jensen has been part of student government for three years. In addition, she has been a member of the Math Team (elected captain her senior year) as well as the Key Club for four years. She is also a four-year member of the basketball and softball teams. She was elected captain of the softball team her junior year and the basketball team her senior year. Kennedy-Jensen was chosen to be a member of the President’s Advisory Committee and has served on the committee for three years. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

In her application essay, Kennedy-Jensen articulated what it means to be loving: “My journey at Cheverus has taught me that to be loving is to care not only for those closest to you, but everyone everywhere and the earth itself.” Kennedy-Jensen developed a deep understanding of serving others through her immersion experience serving the Lakota people at a children’s camp the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. Her desire to care for our common home was piqued by her learning and advocacy experience at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice.

A Portland resident, Kennedy-Jensen is the daughter of Christine and Robert Kennedy-Jensen.
