Bossong Named Valedictorian and Outstanding Senior

Victoria A. Bossong has been named valedictorian of the Cheverus High School Class of 2021. In addition, Bossong has been named Outstanding Senior and All-Around Student. Selected by the students, faculty, and staff, the Outstanding Senior Award is given to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the spirit and ideals of a Cheverus student. She will deliver an address at graduation on Monday, June 7 at Merrill Auditorium.

 

While at Cheverus, Bossong was a standout indoor and outdoor track athlete. She broke 25+ school and league records, earned more than a dozen individual girls track state championships, and competed nationally and internationally. She was named the Portland Press Herald Cheverus Female Athlete of the Decade and the Maine MileSplit Track Madness Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Decade. She won the 400m at New Balance Nationals and was chosen by NCSA to represent the US at the Reykjavík International Games.

 

Bossong was a four-year member of the Key Club, Spanish Club, and Math Team. She served as vice president of the Key Club her junior and senior years and president of the Spanish Club her junior year. She was a member of the National Honor Society and received National Merit Hispanic Recognition as well as the Phi Beta Kappa Award. She will graduate with a STEM distinction.

 

She is an accomplished pianist and violinist and is a member of the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra and Maine’s All-State Orchestra. An active member of Our Lady of Hope parish, Bossong serves as a eucharistic minister, lector, and altar server. She volunteers in the community, sharing her musical talent at area nursing homes and health care facilities. In addition, she has completed international service trips.

 

Bossong is the daughter of Dr. Catalina Atienza and Dr. Lawrence Bossong of Cumberland Foreside. She will attend Harvard University where she will be a member of the track and field team.
