Caroline Arpin ’19 and Richard Joyce ’19 Named Outstanding Seniors

Caroline Arpin ’19 and Richard Joyce ’19 have been named Outstanding Seniors from the Cheverus High School Class of 2019 and will deliver addresses at graduation today, Monday,  June 3, 2019. The Outstanding Senior and All-Around Student Award, selected by the students, faculty, and staff,  is given to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the spirit and ideals of a Cheverus student.

 

While at Cheverus, Caroline Arpin was a member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society, served as a Kairos retreat leader and was chosen as the Cheverus Centennial Gala student speaker. Arpin was recognized with the LeMoyne College Book Award and the Rensselaer Medal, was named a Burger King Scholar, and was awarded the Southwestern Maine Swim Officials Scholarship and the AXA Achievement Scholarship.  Arpin was a four-year member of the swimming and diving team, earning the MVP award her freshman, junior, and senior years. She was named to the SMAA Swimming All-Star Team and served as captain her senior year. Outside of school, she has been an active volunteer in local elementary schools.

Arpin is the daughter of Matthew and the late Michelle Arpin of Scarborough. She will attend Loyola University Maryland.

While at Cheverus, Richard Joyce was a member of the Spanish Club, Homefront Club, and Key Club, served as a retreat leader and eucharistic minister, and was a member of the President’s Action Committee. Joyce was recognized with the Boston College Book Award, was named a Burger King Scholar, and was awarded the 2019 Amairault Scholarship.  Joyce was a four-year member of the basketball team, received the Captain’s Award and served as captain his senior year. Joyce was a three-year member of the golf team and served as captain and received the Stag award his senior year. He was named to the SMAA All-Academic Team for the fall sports season. Joyce served as senior class president and was recognized as a Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram 2019 “10 Grads to Watch.” Outside of school, he has been an active volunteer at STRIVE, an organization that assists people with emotional and intellectual disabilities to live with dignity and respect as active members of our community.

Joyce is the son of Richard and Julie Joyce of Portland. He will attend Boston College Carroll School of Business.
