The Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Fr. Arturo Sosa SJ, has called for an “Ignatian Year” to celebrate the life of St Ignatius Loyola the founder of the Jesuits.

The Year will open on May 20th, the 500th anniversary of when Ignatius the soldier was injured by a cannonball in the Battle of Pamplona.  The Year will conclude on July 31, 2022, the feast day of St Ignatius.  The peak of the celebration will fall on March 12, 2022, the 400th anniversary of the canonization of St Ignatius and St Francis Xavier.

May 23, 2021: PILGRIMS WITH IGNATIUS – LIVE PRAYER BROADCAST

Father General expressed his joy for the active participation of the whole Ignatian family: “It is my hope and desire that we can work together among the entire Ignatian family to celebrate this year, rediscover our roots and thus renew ourselves and our outlook to the world.”

For the inauguration of this Ignatian year, on Pentecost Sunday, 23 May, we are invited to a global prayer in which we all take part: Jesuits, laypeople, youth, religious and those who, from other beliefs or human convictions, participate in the same struggle.

Please, join these brothers and sisters of yours, in spirit and in prayer, at this celebration.
