Graduation Speakers & Top-Ten — 2026

Valedictorian

Alex is a member of the National Honor Society, and he received the Underclassman of the Year award as well as the Yale Book Award his junior year.

While at Cheverus, Alex was an active member of the Key Club and a four-year member of the President’s Advisory Council. He is a cellist and was a four-year member of the Chamber Ensemble, and was recognized with the Maine Music Educators Association District 2 Festival honors his junior year.

Alex was a four-year member of the varsity soccer team and served as captain his junior and senior year. In 2025, he was recognized by the SMAA with an Honorable Mention and was named to the All-Academic Team and was highlighted as one Maine’s Top 25 Soccer Players to Watch. He was also a four-year member of the varsity baseball team.

Outside of school, Alex volunteers as a youth soccer referee and worked at the concession stand for the Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field. He also works as a camp counselor at Camp Cheverus, and in the summer before his senior year, he had an internship with Idexx ISOL Engineering Department.

Alex is the son of Anne Hardcastle and George Royle of Portland. He will attend Cornell University in the fall.


Outstanding Senior & All-Around Student

Briella Doherty has been named the Outstanding Senior and All-Around Student from the Cheverus Class of 2026. This award is given to the graduating senior who best exemplifies the spirit and ideals of a Cheverus student and is selected by the students, faculty, and staff.

While at Cheverus, Doherty was a four-year member of the Key Club, serving as president her senior year. She was also a four-year member of Best Buddies.

Doherty was a four-year standout member of the ice hockey team, winning the state championship her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She was captain her senior year and was also a semi-finalist for Becky Schaffer Award. She was named to the All-Conference team her junior year and All-State team her senior year. She received the Stag Award her junior and senior year. She was also a four-year member of the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams. She served as captain of the lacrosse team her senior year. She was named to the All-Academic team in all three sports her senior year.

Outside of school, Doherty works at Portland Veterinary Emergency and Speciality Care. She also played for Casco Bay Hockey all four years of high school.

Doherty is the daughter of Robert and Kristin Doherty of Portland. She will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall.


Senior Class President

Teta Imfura is the president of the Cheverus Class of 2026.

Imfura has earned the Maine Seal of Biliteracy and is a member of the National Honor Society.

While at Cheverus, Imfura was a four-year member of the Affinity Club, Key Club, and Best Buddies. She attended the Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice her senior year. She was an active member of Campus Ministry and was a three-year retreat leader, including Kairos. She served as admissions ambassador all four years. She was a member of Model UN for two years.

Imfura was a two-year member of the tennis team and a three-year member of the volleyball team.

Outside of school, she volunteers at The Rock Church in Scarborough.

Imfura is the daughter of Diane Uwera of Portland. In the fall, she will attend St. Joseph’s College.
