At the 2025 Underclassman Awards Ceremony, Dr. Moran presented the Duffy Award, an award that has been presented annually since 2005 to a classroom teacher “in recognition for their dedication to teaching and support of Cheverus High School Students.”

This year’s Duffy Award recipient is Director of Instructional Support Kerry Heaven.

On her application to teach at Cheverus, she described her teaching philosophy as wanting “to provide the least restrictive path for all students to mature spiritually, intellectually, socially, and emotionally in the most secure, stimulating, and supportive environment possible.” It is this vision and sense of purpose that has endeared her to her students and fellow faculty members over the past six years.

As one colleague said, “She goes above and beyond for our students, both in Room 19 and on our athletic fields. She has been a teacher or co-teacher for all of our Instructional Support students, helping them in over 60 different classes, representing every department in the school. I appreciate her limitless patience, kindness, perseverance, and sense of humor—to name just a few of her attributes. To put it simply, it is a rare teacher who can do what she does. I’m not sure where our school would be today without her.”

Congratulations Mrs. Heaven!
