Cheverus Announces Three New Scholarships For Incoming Freshmen

March 08, 2020
By Office of Admissions

Cheverus High School is pleased to announce three new scholarships for children of active military personnel, first responders, and diocesan teachers. Ninth grade students starting at Cheverus in the fall of 2020 will be eligible for these scholarships. The amount of each scholarship is $5,000 and will be awarded annually.

“These three new scholarships specifically recognize the selfless service our military, our first responders, and our Catholic school teachers to our nation, the Southern Maine community, and our youth,” said Cheverus President Robert J. Pecoraro, S.J. “Their service is a model for their families and us all.”

“As a Jesuit institution, service to others is core to our mission,” said  Pecoraro. This school year, Cheverus provided tuition assistance to over 70% of our students.

Military Service Scholarship

Our community and our nation are indebted to those who serve selflessly to defend and protect our rights and freedom.  In recognition of hard-working families serving to protect our nation, Cheverus High School has established the Military Service Scholarship to provide financial assistance for incoming ninth grade Cheverus students who are daughters or sons of Active Military Service Personnel with demonstrated financial need.  The Military Service Scholarship provides tuition assistance of $5,000 per year and receipt of this scholarship does not preclude the awarding of additional assistance as determined by the Tuition Assistance Committee.

First Responder Scholarship

Our community benefits immeasurably from the skills and expertise provided by those who are trained to render assistance at the scenes of accidents, disasters, and attacks.  In recognition of hard-working families serving on the front-lines of emergency situations, Cheverus High School has established the First Responder Scholarship to provide financial assistance for incoming ninth grade Cheverus students who are daughters or sons of active First Responders (active career police officers or firefighters/EMTs) with demonstrated financial need.  The First Responder Scholarship provides tuition assistance of $5,000 per year and receipt of this scholarship does not preclude the awarding of additional assistance as determined by the Tuition Assistance Committee.

Diocesan Teacher Scholarship

Our community benefits greatly from those who devote their careers to educating our youth in the Catholic tradition.  In recognition of hard-working families dedicated to Catholic education, Cheverus High School has established the Diocesan Teacher Scholarship to provide financial assistance for incoming ninth grade Cheverus students who are daughters or sons of full-time teachers in Maine’s Roman Catholic Diocesan elementary and middle schools with demonstrated financial need.  The Diocesan Teacher Scholarship provides tuition assistance of $5,000 per year and receipt of this scholarship does not preclude the awarding of additional assistance as determined by the Tuition Assistance Committee.

Re-Enrollment Contracts for 2019-2020 Due March 1

January 27, 2019
By Kerry Bishop

Thank you for choosing Cheverus as the school community for your child. Our faculty and staff are committed to supporting your student and to invite him/her to grow intellectually, spiritually, and personally.

Enrollment contracts for students returning for the 2019-2020 school year are available via ParentsWeb. The online re-enrollment contract -- including the $750 non-refundable holding fee -- should be completed by March 1, 2019.

To access the re-enrollment form for current students:

  • Log in to ParentsWeb
  • Click the "Family Information" link in the left-hand menu
  • Click on "Enrollment/Re-enrollment" link
(Only one parent will see the re-enrollment contract link, to avoid duplication.  Cheverus has sent a copy of this information to the parent with enrollment responsibility. Please contact Lisa Merrill or Dot St. Hilaire to change the parent viewing the enrollment contact).

The online process should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your information will be saved if you need to take a break and return later. If you have any questions about the process, feel free to contact Kerry Bishop at (207) 774-6238 x 123.

Cheverus makes every effort to provide tuition assistance to our families in need. Last year, nearly nine out of 10 families who completed the tuition assistance process on or before March 1 successfully enrolled or re-enrolled their children at Cheverus. However, since our tuition assistance funds are limited, the sooner you complete the tuition assistance application process (should you choose to do so), the more likely we will be able to assist you. 2019-20 Tuition Assistance link: FACTS tuition assistance.

Please note that the first tuition assistance deadline is quickly approaching on February 8, 2019.
